An Explanation of My Silence

First off, it's amazing to me how involved people become in your sex life after you get married. We got asked "so - when are you having kids?" every time we saw someone. Then after a year or so it turned in to "so, why haven't you had kids? Do you need some advice?" Umm...no thanks. I think we got this. ;)

My Beloved and I talked about kids and figured now would be as good a time as any to give it a try. August 31 will mark 4 years married (and September 1st will be 10 years together. 10 years, yeesh).

A few months ago I had a rough day at work and was looking forward to a bottle of wine. I'd had cramps for a few days but nothing else so I thought 'I'll be responsible and take a pregnancy test before I open the bottle, just in case.'

And it came back positive.

Crap - now no wine. ;)

When Daniel got home I told him I failed a pregnancy test or passed it - I'm not really sure which way is which. I couldn't have my wine so.....

Since I'm a walking medical issue - I see the doctor the next day and start my daily shots. With my history of blood clots, I have to remain on blood thinning shots throughout the pregnancy to hopefully prevent any issues. And so far so good! And I give myself the shots!! Mom hasn't had to drive over from her house once! That's growth my friends!

While we wanted to share our exciting news, we wanted to be a little more sure before we did. Growing up with a L&D nurse has made me well aware of the things that could go wrong and I'm already a little paranoid so we've kept it kind of close. (Crazy Confession: I felt like I was jinxing it every time we told someone - it's my damage and I'm working on it.)

I'm currently a little over 17 weeks and we're THRILLED!! And terrified. And all sorts of things.

And there are SO many stories I want to share with you! So while I've been impatiently quiet - I'll now be posting lots!

I promise.

Until next time.....

Let Him Eat Cake

Yesterday we celebrated my Beloved's birthday. It was a lovely day with family, food and fun. And there was cake! But the cake comes with a story.

I asked my Daniel what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and since he's a sweet boy he says chocolate. Knowing chocolate is indeed my favorite and not his, I asked for the truth. He says he's always been partial to Strawberry so strawberry it is! I find a strawberry recipe on Pinterest that looks super simple - I got this!

I tell Daniel I found a Strawberry cake recipe - this is how the conversation goes:
Him: Oh, does it have white icing?
Me: No, I think it is has pink icing.
Him: Oh, well does it have strawberries on top and on the sides?
Me: No.... why?
Him: Oh nothing, it's just...that's how my mom makes hers.

Yeesh.

So I call my mother-in-law to retrieve her recipe. I prepare the cake and I'm done mixing the icing. I hand Daniel the beater and ask if it tastes like it's supposed to and this is his response - "I don't know. I can't remember."

Double yeesh.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it so I'm counting it as a win. ;)

Until next time....

Saturday Sibling Spankings

My sister came in to town this past weekend which meant Martin Family Bonding Time! HOLLA!

The day started out with lunch. Most of our adventures are centered around food.

We get in to the car and Travis points to a tiny whitish spider hanging between the two front seats (I'm convinced it's an Albino Brown Recluse but since it's currently on the lam - this cannot be confirmed). He lets the spider land on his hand only to have said spider leap on to our mother. Chaos ensues. The spider runs for its life and mom finds her fly swatter. Why the woman has a fly swatter in her truck is beyond me - except for the obvious: to reach her bad children in the back seat. What good Southern Momma wouldn't have a fly swatter close at hand? Spanking #1 for the day: Travis threw a spider at mom. Tami gets in the car and mom announces that Travis threw a spider on her so if the spider ends up on her leg while she's driving and kills us all - blame him. "Nice Bubba"

Oh yeah, this is going to be a good day!

We eat and drop the boy off at home because he doesn't want a pedicure - foolish child. We then head to the mall for a cookie - they always have the best cookies! Because Poopie is indecisive, we end up with an extra cookie. No worries - we'll give it to Travis. As the three Martin Women are getting back in the car - the two younger Martin women might have sassed the older one. Oops. Spanking #2 & #3 of the day: The Sisters sass. In all honesty I'm pretty sure I didn't deserve it but Poopie always gets me in trouble! ;)

When we get home we hand the cookie to Travis who immediately eats half of it. We're not entirely sure what kind of cookie it is so we ask what the 'chewy' part the the chocolate chewy cookie is.
Travis: You gave me a cookie and you didn't know what was in it?!
Me: You ate half the cookie without asking what was in it!!
Travis: Well, is it so bad that I trust my sisters?!
Me: Probably! Have you blocked out your entire childhood?!

We had an awesome day full of laughing and eating and laughing. We ended the day sharing chips and queso at our favorite Tex Mex spot. Yummm!

I love spending time with my family. They bring me joy.

And seriously, who could be mad at these sweet faces?!

Until next time.....
