One for the book

The day was going so well.

And then I decided to attempt to clip her nails.

She HATES having her hands messed with. Always has. You try to hold her hand and she pulls it away and shakes her head like "uh uh!!" So trimming the nails is a challenge.

I usually try to wait until she is asleep but I can't ever get to all of them.

She was on my lap watching TV so I thought I would try. We got through four fingers....and then the thumb.

She pushed at the right time and I clipped her pretty good. It started bleeding and wouldn't stop. Blood everywhere. She was in good spirits while I was attempting to hold pressure on her thumb but it's not easy with only one hand a very squirmy child.

After an hour of not slowing down - I called my Beloved.

Luckily he works close to home so he was able to come help. Between the two of us, the bleeding wasn't slowing down so to the neighborhood ER we went.

Our first trip to the ER.

They applied some medicine and wrapped her hand up all tight. She fell asleep watching Nick Jr.

Poor thing.

I felt SO BAD.

After some time they checked to make sure the bleeding had stopped. Everything looked good. They wrapped her back up and sent us home with the instructions to keep it wrapped for a few more hours.

However, Mission GET IT OFF!!!! started as soon as she was free at home.

I caught her pulling on it. I caught her biting at it. She even had it under her arm trying to pull it off. I did what I could do to distract her but she managed to get it loose enough that I had to take it off.

And everything was fine! You couldn't even tell I traumatized her.

Probably it means I didn't.

But I cried for hours.

She's going to have the longest nails by the time she goes to school.

And her baby book will be very entertaining.

Until next time....
